I am going to attend my first of a 5 session course of a watercolour studio at OCAD University. As I haven’t done a watercolour course before, and frankly haven’t taken much formal teaching of art, I am excited to see what it will be like.
Whenever I saw Janet Kim on Kim’s Convenience going to OCAD, I was always a bit envious of how she got to pursue arts (well, with her parent’s disapproval). I’ve attended the OCAD Grad Ex event a number of occasions, the first which replaced seeing an exhibit of a very famous painter as we stumbled across it that spring day. The quality of art there has been some of the best work I’ve seen so I figure what better way to do it than there.
I realize there is actually some kind of assignment between weeks which was surprising to me as I guess it is something to take seriously. I can’t imagine how art could be properly graded, except perhaps with technique. I am not sure the make up of the class, if they are all students with skills far exceeding mine. But it should be interesting to get critiques of my work.
