The value of talking about your art

When I explained to someone how I was being tough on myself for not creating more art, I found that a key to getting back was talking about my previous ones to other people live. I got to share with her some of my paintings and got excited about what I made in the past.

This helped me overcome the hump of beating myself up about not making something new.

Tapping into what made me excited to show what I wanted to convey in a previous painting, and getting positive feedback someone else was really helpful. It helped me reach the point of feeling like this was enjoyable, rather than additional work. It proved to me that I was excited about my work and I fed off her excitement seeing what I made.

Rather than focusing on making more social media posts, I’ve decided to try talking about my art to other people instead. Seeing the reaction live really helps.

I wanted to make art that is only my own, sharing meaning that is my own. That is the whole purpose of making it.
