A while ago I read the book Indistractable by Nir Eyal and was reminded of it recently as I watched another Joshua Becker video about how reducing watching television would be the one thing that no one regrets doing after they do it.
The Indistractable book was how to reduce distractions in daily life in order to actually get things done. I implemented this on my personal phone where I don’t receive message notifications on the front screen and turned off those sounds. I was surprised how much of a change this was for me immediately and realized how much additional stress these messages cost.
There was no downside in not immediately having an alert every time someone sent me a message. Instead, I responded when I wanted to and was free to do so.
I’m going to try reducing the amount of Youtube or Netflix I watch and increase my reading instead, as I do enjoy it when I get down to it.
In art, I sense that the distractions are the other things you could be trying – and in particular the mediums you could work with – which tends to scatter you from focusing on creating your style. It’s also the many social media platforms which you could look at rather than making your own art.
