Pop culture and social media

It seems to me that my reels on Facebook and Instagram have started taking off. I’m not sure whether this is because they have a pop culture bent to them. For the first one with Castlevania, I had posted it without any expectation that it would be well received and then I started noticing my notification messages. 16 likes? I was convinced these people were bots and couldn’t quite figure out how to check who liked my video.

Later in the week I was able to figure out the names of people who had liked my reel and then did a few random searches to verify that these people sort of did seem like real people (at least, they were the anime and gaming crowd, which made sense). So I thought I’d try another one featuring Wednesday Addams.

After I posted that, I was very disappointed that there were essentially no likes and was quite confused as I thought this was a better drawing and video. The video editing process actually is quite difficult and it sometimes takes longer than the artwork itself to create. So I went to bed.

The next morning I saw it had blown up again, and that it just took some time to be well received.

I don’t really imagine myself as a pop culture artist, but it’s nice to see people like what I create.
