For every piece that is good enough, there are many more which don’t make the cut.
But, I am not discouraged. I am reminded of this striking installation by Clare Twomey called “Piece by Piece” in 2014 at the Gardiner Museum in downtown Toronto. She demonstrated the tension between the artist at their workbench with thousands of cast porcelain pieces strewn across the floor, and three figurines, glamorous, encased in the acrylic display boxes, staring across the room and glimmering under the spotlight.
When we see the museum display cases, we don’t see all the cast away ones that came before it.
