I am listening to a e-book borrowed through the Toronto Public Library system called The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron for tips on unleashing creativity. One of the first exercises is to do something called “Morning Pages” which involves handwriting 3 pages of whatever nonsense comes into your head right when you make up. This allows your mind to stop thinking about all the blockages and lets it focus on creative ideas.
The difference between this and journaling is that this is a non-stop writing exercise until the three pages are complete. When journaling, I tend to stop and think (and frequently get distracted), but this exercise forces me to keep on going. This makes it a fast exercise.
The question is whether it has been helpful, but perhaps I need to continue doing it first to see what comes up.
