Learning Illustration

I’m now taking my second OCAD class which in this case is on drawing at an advanced level. I thought the first class was interesting. I enjoyed working at a massive easel which was vertical as opposed to the usual way I have which is on a horizontal plane. I realized at the beginning I needed the whole set up much lower than it was as I was certainly getting an arm workout.

The class focused on hands and feet, and I admittedly struggle with feet so it was good to keep a study of it. It was fun to draw the anatomy of the bones in the feet and it turned out quite well based on some other drawings. I also learned that when shading, you follow the contours of the subject. Sort of shows how you can learn from replications quite a bit.

I like how certain things can be transferrable cross medium – apparently sculptures are also great at drawing because they understand the volume of the subject matter.

The 3 hour class in the evenings passed very quickly and somehow reenergized me after a long day, so I’m glad I’m taking the course.
