I was reading a bargain book I once picked up of the Practical Encyclopedia of Watercolour and came across a painting I liked. The painting itself was to demonstrate perspective though it caught my eye for other reasons. I wanted to see if I could make grass like that painting.
Many artists study others by copying great masterpieces, and you learn a lot from making the copy. While we value creativity for its uniqueness to putting new ideas together in new ways, there is a lot to learn from technique through copying and study.
As a byproduct of this, I started noticing how the small brush strokes on the bushes were achieved in the distance.
As it goes, I like how my layering is working, though I think the strokes need to be more connected to achieve a similar effect. More grass studies ahead!
