Create more than Consume

When I’m tempted to sit and just watch hours of videos, or catch myself scrolling through social media, I’m reminded of the mantra to create rather than ton consume.

The idea is that the pay off is much greater to make something and put it out into the world. It’s easy to be a consumer. It’s harder to be a creator.

This being close to the end of the most consumerist time of the year, seems fitting to remind myself.

I’ve tried a new solution from a book Workday Warrior by Ann Gomez on how to arrange my time. One of the major important things has been to pick 3 core priorities. I’ve noticed that since I started to focus on paintings rather than making too many at a time, I’m able to see the pay off more easily which is motivating. I’ve tried posting more my progress to create that positive feedback loop.

From the Workday Warrior book, I’ve started using Clickup to organize my time. I am not entirely sure how good of a system this will be for me, but I did find it easier to know what my personal and work priorities are which allow me to say yes or no to new things. I still find it hard to juggle so many items at once though.

I’m not done the book yet, so I perhaps will learn more soon. But the first parts have me create tasks under each of the core priorities, and set deadlines clearly for each of them. Some of these tend to move around, so I’ve tried reorganizing this.

I did like having a daily plan in addition to this major map with core priorities, but I quickly fell out of the habit to make a plan for the next day. Part of me still enjoys having some flexibility every day and so I’m not sure if I’m good with having a daily plan all the time. Part of me also doesn’t like planning either in my personal life.
