A motivating factor for me to create is to see something that didn’t exist before. I take pride in being able to provide something of value to someone else.

I’ve gotten some questions on how to make matboards and so I decided to film my process this time before my next art show. Was fun though I tend to not show up in my Instagram reels.

Editing can be a pain though but I use Clipchamp to do it. While there are a few other apps, I sensed my privacy would be better protected with one run by Microsoft.

Being creative is cool. There isn’t really someone who reacts negatively to it. I suppose if I were more of an abstract artist then the comment of “I could do that” would cause strife.

I get asked frequently how long it takes to make a piece. It is not really my favourite question as it tends to link value with time spent. Perhaps that could lead to a better discussion though of how I come up with ideas rather than the mere execution of the painting.

Sometimes I come up with an idea and write it down immediately in my phone. My best is when I act immediately on inspiration, before the gremlins of doubt sink their teeth to destroy what energy I had to make the idea into reality.

But keeping in mind the pay off helps me stay motivated. I see my creation, and when people react positively, it is so motivating. I find that people like things I don’t expect, and ones I don’t like sometimes are well received. It’s confusing and interesting.

One creates because one derives meaning from making. The value that we generate then blossoms into something even bigger.
